About Al-Anon

Al-Anon Family Groups are a 12 Step Recovery Program for family and friends of alcoholics.  Some of us have a spouse or partner who struggles with alcoholism.

For others of us, it's a parent, child, grandchild, sibling or friend.  Loving someone who struggles with alcohol is difficult.  It can make us feel helpless, angry, depressed and lonely.

For many of us, it leads to obsessive and controlling behaviors.  Al-Anon's peer-to-peer support offers us a chance to voice our struggles and share our experience, strength and hope.

The family disease of alcoholism is complex, but Al-Anon can help us to change our attitudes and behaviors so we can find serenity, whether the alcoholic is still drinking or not.

What if someone I love is addicted to drugs?

Can I attend Al-Anon if someone I love struggles with drug addiction?  Can Al-Anon help me?

Al-Anon has one purpose: to help family members and friends of alcoholics.  However, a recent survey of Al-Anon members reported that 35% of members started attending Al-Anon because a loved one was struggling with drug addiction, and that Al-Anon helped them.  This survey also showed that 78% of these members eventually came to realize that someone's drinking had also negatively affected them.

We encourage you to try Al-Anon and see if it helps you.
